Northpower is an electricity and fibre network provider for Whangarei and Kaipara, with more than 60,000 connected customers. We also provide contracting services to our partners – other network owners and operators across the North Island.
We have over 1,300 staff working together across 13 locations to keep the power on and the lights going for our customers. Northpower has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Arborist to join us in providing vegetation services around the power lines.
The role
Based out of our Whangarei depot and reporting to the Vegetation Supervisor, you will be joining our team of three providing arborist/vegetation services across the Northland region.
- Upkeep and maintain powerline networks by minimising and eliminating interference caused by vegetation
- Climb, trim and dismantle trees
- Operate chainsaws, brush chippers and cherry pickers

About you
To be considered for this role you’ll need to be an experienced Arborist with Arboriculture qualifications. Previous experience working around the high voltage network would be an advantage but definitely not a deal-breaker. Along with this, you’ll also have:
- Capability to climb trees and be comfortable working at heights
- Experience in felling, pruning, rigging and dismantling trees
- A full clean NZ class 1 driver’s licence (Class 2 desirable)
- Ability to cope with the physical demands of the job along with a strong commitment to health and safety
- Great verbal and written communication skills
- A great attitude and a willingness to be part of a team
- Minimum Level 3 or above Arborist qualification with on the tools experience
