Why American Express?
There’s a difference between having a job and making a difference. American Express has been making a difference in people’s lives for over 160 years, backing them in moments big and small, and granting access, tools, and resources to take on their biggest challenges and reap the greatest rewards.
We’ve also made a difference in the lives of our people, providing a culture of learning and collaboration, and helping them with what they need to succeed and thrive. We have their backs as they grow their skills, conquer new challenges, or even take time to spend with their family or community.
And when they’re ready to take on a new career path, we’re right there with them, giving them the guidance and momentum into the best future they envision. Because we believe that the best way to back our customers is to back our people.
Why Risk Strategy & Analytics at American Express?
The mission of the Credit and Fraud Risk organization is to minimize losses while promoting business growth and delivering outstanding customer service. Every year, credit and fraud losses heavily influence whether American Express achieves its business goals. Limiting losses is a virtuous cycle. For our shareholders, it means freeing up funds for business reinvestment.
For our customers, it enables us to extend more credit and invest in richer product value, like reward points and airline lounges. Credit & Fraud Risk carries out its mission by quantifying and controlling risk at each stage of the customer lifecycle, across all products and geographies.
At the highest level, our strategy & analytics teams create risk logic to maximize economic returns. Examples of business problems solved by our strategy teams include when to permit over-limit spending.
When to decline a card application as probable fraud, and when to hold collateral against an AXP merchant displaying warning signs. In most cases, these activities are automated, although, for merchants and larger commercial clients, we supplement with expert human review.
We are looking for Directors to join our risk strategy & analytics teams in the United States. American Express is looking for strong leaders that will be part of high-energy and efficient teams that will build our next-generation credit and fraud risk strategies.
Our drive comes from striving to continuously work towards providing our customers a better experience leveraging state-of-the-art technology and industry-leading analytics.
Role & Responsibilities:
Here’s just some of what you’ll do in this role:
- Lead and manage strategic decisions across operational risk, fraud risk, or credit risk functions
- Encourage, engage and lead a team of high-performing team members
- Drive in-depth analytics and collaborate with our modeling teams to enhance economic logic that supports core risk management decisions.
- Partner across other various enterprise groups to design and implement strategies that enable profitable growth, while controlling for through-the-cycle volatility
- Ensure control, compliance, and operational risk mitigation in all processes, and design for a streamlined user experience across customer touch points.
- Build and deploy the next generation of risk management tools and capabilities to deliver industry-leading credit quality and enable accelerated profitable growth.
Leadership professionals at this level drive the operations in the unit or a vertical and contribute to business strategy. Their decisions have a significant financial impact on the company. Their role is more strategic and supervisory and less operational.
