Description
- Operates high-pressure boilers and checks controls to ensure proper, safe operation including water levels, incoming gas, and oil pressure.
- Checks boiler feed pumps and oil pre-heaters for correct oil temperature and oil tank readings.
- Reports significant events (in a timely fashion) to the Chief Engineer.
- Checks house pumps for water pressure to buildings and checks hot water temperature.
- Tests boiler water for chloride and hardness content also checks chilled water and cooling tower water and adds chemicals accordingly.
- Makes tours of hospitals taking temperatures and pressure readings.
- Regulates heat according to weather conditions.
- Inspects, cleans, and blows down the boiler for proper functioning.
- Cleans oil feed line strainers to boilers.
- Oils and grease pumps, electric motors, etc.
- Maintains log of boiler room operation.
- Operates air conditioning equipment.
- Changes filters in air handling units.
- Maintains general cleanliness of boiler room.
- Checks for fire hazards in the basement area.
- Tests emergency generator and serves storage batteries.
- Maintains an acceptable attendance record per hospital policy.
- Supports the hospital Mission Statement, following its “Patients First” philosophy and acting appropriately as a “Best Person” by demonstrating cooperation and professionalism towards patients, guests, physicians, and fellow employees.
Requirements:
- Stationary Engineer License from City of Chicago
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License
