About the Organisation 

The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses, and visitors.

These range from childcare and immunizations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance, and more. The city of Port Phillip has zero tolerance for child abuse and is a committed Child Safe organization.  

About the Role

The City of Port Phillip is seeking a Gathering Place Development Officer to support the self-determination of the local aboriginal community through leadership development and co-design activities centered around aboriginal gathering, programming, and events.

This is an indigenous identified position and development role, meaning that successful candidates will be supported to develop and refine their skills and knowledge over the course of the appointment.

Duties

  • To work with the local Indigenous community and services to maintain awareness of community needs
  • Provide hands-on support to the co-design group by providing advice on Reconciliation planning 
  • To work with the community in supporting opportunities for social gathering
  • to encourage leadership opportunities for local Aboriginal community members 

Skills and Experience 

  • Understanding of, and involving working with Aboriginal people
  • Experience in maintaining networks \\with stakeholders
  • Able to support community engagement, local leadership, and co-design
  • Experiencing preparing information for the community.
