The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCA) is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as its Chief Medical Information Officer, leading the strategic execution, oversight, continual development, advancement, and optimization of the UT Health Epic electronic health record (EHR).
UT Health San Antonio broke ground on the new $430 million UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital (https://uthealthsahospital.org/). This eight-story, 144-bed hospital will offer specialty care in cancer, and orthopedics.
Urology, neurosurgery, vascular, and bariatric surgery. In support of the Multispecialty and Research Hospital (MSRH), UT Health San Antonio will be expanding and refueling its current ambulatory Epic environment to a state-of-the-art Enterprise Epic environment.
Reporting to the Chief Health Information and Value Officer, the CMIO is both a leadership and hands-on position and will assist the CHIO in ambulatory Epic, population health, and quality.
Value-based care, clinical integration, analytics and reporting, telemedicine, mobile, and web-based applications, and be a liaison to UT Health research. The CMIO will play an integral part in the Epic EHR implementation for the new UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital.
The CMIO will help lead Associate CMIOs and the development of a robust physician builder program. The CMIO will work collaboratively with the Deputy CIO, Assistant Vice President of Clinical Systems, Epic Directors as well as other informatics, research, and clinical leaders at UT Health San Antonio.
Candidates must possess a comprehensive knowledge of Health Informatics through a combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate will also have 3 – 5 years of experience with Epic, and clinical systems and process design/re-design.
Experience as an Epic Physician Builder and advanced certifications are preferred. A Medical Degree with board certification in a clinical specialty is required with academic credentials that merit a faculty appointment.

UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least 20 hours a week, with an appointment of at least 4.5 months, are eligible for benefits.

With options to purchase additional employee and dependent coverage for both at group rates. Retirement- Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP).
TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan in which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.
Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on the date of hire.
Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken. Paid Family Leave Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
Holidays: 12 sets of paid holidays each year plus three floating holidays, which can be used anytime during the fiscal year. FSAs- Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses. Discounts- Employees enjoy a range of discounts on services, tickets, and gym membership.
