Position Overview

The Engineering, Parks and Environment Department (Engineering Operations) requires temporary full-time Labourer 2 employees for the summer season to work in the Utilities and Streets sections.
Responsibilities
In our Utilities section, you will primarily be assigned to perform unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual tasks in the construction and maintenance of water distribution, sanitary collection, and/or storm collection systems. In our Streets section, you will perform unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual work in the construction and repair of sidewalks, curbs and gutters, roads and pavement maintenance, and boulevard maintenance. Both positions involve considerable physical effort and agility to perform these construction and maintenance tasks. Work assignments may also be in any of the Engineering Operations work sections, based on operational requirements.
Requirements
You will have some related experience in Utilities or Streets maintenance and knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in construction work, preferably in a municipal environment. Skill in the operation of power and hand tools is required as well as demonstrated ability to perform heavy physical labouring/manual work in all types of weather. You must also be able to deal effectively with the public and embrace values such as teamwork, respect, a positive attitude, professionalism and integrity. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required. Completion of courses leading to a trades qualification, degree, diploma or certificate would be an asset.
