This is manual labour requiring physical effort and agility in the performance of semi-skilled and unskilled construction and maintenance tasks within the Water Operations, Maintenance, and Construction division. The incumbent performs related tasks in the installation, repair, and servicing of waterworks systems, such as locating and repairing leaks, installing taps ranging from 19mm to 450mm in diameter, pipe installation, water system maintenance, and construction work. As needed, performs related work.
Up to a high school diploma and experience in general construction and maintenance work are required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some understanding of the safety equipment and practises used in water-related construction and maintenance work; of the functions of the water distribution system. Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks requiring independent judgement and action; understanding and carrying out oral and simple written instructions. Knowledge of a wide range of hand and power tools used in water maintenance and construction work. Physical strength, stamina, and coordination required to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.It is necessary to have a valid British Columbia driver’s licence.
